HOY! HOY!
SHUFFLE ON! LOST IN THE SHUFFLE's newest release for your discreet
perusal. Dig in, the groovin's fine. Emphasis on shuffle style, the opener sets
the pace with a solid reworking of Amos Milburn's Aladdin Chicken Shackers' hit
- HOUSE PARTY (TONIGHT) featuring solos by Dougie 'Shuggie' Silveira (guitar,
vocals), Allan 'Gnarly Fingers' Carroll (Hammond B-3) and Rob 'Harmonica Head'
Hager (stang-me-strat-style guitar). Leaving the chicken shack for a more uptown
(but ever so greasy) version of Brother Jack McDuff's - A REAL GOODUN', you'll
find Silveira and Carroll gettin' gritty over the able rhythm section of Ron
Fillmore (drums) and Guy 'Guido' Valverde (bass). Next up is JOE'S GOT THE WATER
- an original tale of woe regarding the vagaries of consuming home-brew tequila.
Penned by Lost In The Shuffle, the performance features the superb piano work of
Santa Cruz, California's own Dale Ockerman who is also featured on the next cut,
SAME OLD BLUES / PLEASE SEND ME SOMEONE TO LOVE. Here, the bridge of Percy
Mayfield's classic is seamlessly melded into the verses of Freddie King's most
sophisticated work (Texas Cannonball? Sophisticated?) Check it out! Now to the
seamy side of the blues, for your listening pleasure, a burn through Good Rockin'
Roy Brown's infamous - BUTCHER PETE (PART ONE). Hager's harp holds forth as he
hacks and whacks his way through this X-rated gem. A PLACE NOBODY CAN FIND is
from the Stax vaults and was Sam & Dave's first single. The treatment is a
little bluesier than the original but still maintains that oh-so-cool stripper
backbeat. LION'S DEN features the amped-up vocal stylings of Guido Valverde,
pianist Thom Merida and an additional helping of Hager's strat. ONE MORE TIME
was originally recorded by vocalist Billy Gale with Ike Turner's Kings of
Rhythm. Here Silveira gets into the whammy-bar-rip while Hager lays into the
harp. The set closes with a moving rendition of The Band's (SHUFFLING) BACK TO
MEMPHIS, which features ensemble solo work and Carroll's country-tinged
background vocals (I gotta get to Memphis, even if I have to crawl!). Recorded
at Magic Sound Studios, Santa Cruz, Calif. - 2004
